The Venue and Local Amenities

Back

The campsite address is: Cheverton Farm, Newport Rd, Apse Heath, Sandown, Isle of Wight PO36 9PJ

Note that the site may have some visitors staying who are not connected with SSUK. If you think you might get a little excited and be late to bed please show consideration for them by choosing a pitch as close to the back of the campsite as possible.

The site has a modern shower block and some electric hook-ups, which will be available ‘first come, first served’.

The main entrance to the campsite is on an unlit main road, however if you are riding or walking there is a gravel path separated from the road by a hedge down to the airport entrance about a quarter of a mile away where streetlights start.

Within half a mile of the campsite there is a Morrisons supermarket and a Premier Inn. A half mile further on you will be in the centre of the village of Lake where you will find a fish and chip shop and a variety of takeaways. Lake Kebab House in particular were very helpful a few years ago when a number of us did an overnight ride across the Island and back and will deliver orders of £8 and more. There is no excuse for starving.

If you want to stay off-site with a more solid roof over your head try the Premier Inn, Landguard Holiday Park (which has prices from £149 for a 3 night stay in a 2 bed chalet including car ferry crossing) or Cheverton Copse Holiday Park which are all within a short walk/stagger from the event HQ. A little further out there are many other hotel and B&B options.

At the back of the campsite there is a bridleway leading to Borthwood Copse about a mile away. Last time I rode through there I spied some dirt jumps so it’s probably worth an explore if you’ve got time to kill.

This fellow is a bit of a local celeb on the Island. Have a listen to what he has to say about it.
